Volunteer Work in Barcelona: Placement Process

To participate of the Volunteer Abroad program in Spain, you first need to choose a volunteer placement from the wide range of positions we offer within Spanish host organizations of the social, health care, ecology, and education fields.

Once you have made up your mind, complete the online form and we will send you the Volunteer Work Application Package with everything we need to get your placement process started. Please bear in mind that the volunteer work placement process may take up to 8 weeks. During this time, we will keep you updated on the evolution of the process, and we will give you all the information you will need to organize your trip to Spain.

Your volunteer placement will be confirmed by COINED Spain and the host organization based on the availability at the moment you apply, as well as on the information you submit on the Application Package.

Volunteer Work Requirements

• You need to fill in the forms and documents of the Application Package and send them to COINED Spain by mail, together with the deposit payment confirmation.
• To begin your volunteer abroad program you need to be able to communicate in Spanish. You will have an interview in Spanish during your placement process.
• You need to commit to a minimum of two and a maximum of six months to your assigned volunteer placement.
• You need to have finished high school and to be 18 or older.
• You need to have an accident, illness and third party liability insurance coverage.
• You are expected to respect the host organization's norms, as well as the Terms and Conditions of COINED Spain.
• You need to be ready and willing to interact in a multicultural environment, and to commit to the host organization's goals.

Volunteer Work Length and Dates

You decide the duration of your volunteer abroad program, but for this to be a truly positive experience, we strongly recommend you to commit a minimum of two months. Usually our host organizations require a minimum length of eight weeks, and a maximum of six months.

After you submit your volunteer work Application Package, it may take up to 8 weeks to confirm your volunteering placement. Once your placement if confirmed, you will receive a placement confirmation form with a description of your host organization and a description of the activities you will be performing.

Our host institutions are normally flexible regarding your start date, and we always try to adjust to both your needs and arrival date. Still, it is a good idea that you wait to have the confirmation of your placement to book your flight.

Upon completing your Volunteering Program, COINED will issue a Certificate of Participation, which you will receive together with a certificate from the host organization.

Visa

If you do not belong to any of the European Union countries and your internship program will be over 90 days, you will need to apply for a student visa. Upon your request, once the volunteer work placement has been confirmed and the full program paid, COINED Spain will issue a letter of confirmation of your program for the Spanish consulate. Together with this letter you will need to submit: three completed and signed visa application forms, a valid passport, three recent passport colour pictures with white background, proof of financial means, and travel insurance. Volunteer Work in Spain: Locations

Barcelona

All our volunteer abroad placements are based in Barcelona city, and a few of them are in Barcelona neighboring towns, such as Ripollet or Granollers. Transport is very good, and you normally do not need to travel for more than 30 minutes.
