Paid Work Experience in Spain


With the Paid Work Experience in Spain program you will have the opportunity of working in Spain and practicing your Spanish skills while you self-finance your stay in Spain. The Paid Work Experience in Spain program is offered in and around Barcelona and Marbella, in popular summer resorts and other service industries in the fields of hospitality, catering, retail, etc.

Requirements

  • You need to be under 26 or a full time university Work & Travel in Spainstudent under 30;
  • You need to be a EU citizen with a valid EU passport, including new members Cyprus and Malta (other new members are still not eligible as there is a minimum transition period before Spanish authorities will give full work authorisation), or citizen of Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and Iceland;
  • You need to have at least an intermediate level of Spanish, and to be committed to improving your Spanish skills through your experience in Spain;
  • Preferably, you need to have some experience in the hospitality industry;
  • You need to be open and respectful towards different cultures, and to be able to live independently while in Spain;
  • You need to be enthusiastic, motivated, ready to adapt to new situations and environments, responsible, healthy and flexible;
  • You need to respect the local civil law, habits and culture, and to be personally responsible for the consequences of any misconduct;
  • You need a good health certificate and full travel insurance including third party liability. We recommend you to bring your European Social Health card (E 111).

Program Length

  • Minimum stay of three months
  • Unlimited maximum stay

Program Start Dates

  • Summer: March, April, May, June and July
  • Winter: September, October, December

Work Placements

Your chances of getting an interesting, good job placement depend largely on your Spanish skills. The higher your level of Spanish, the better you will perform in the job interviews. Also, if you have some experience in the hospitality industry, you will be more likely to get a better job offer more quickly.

Work & Travel in Spain

If your Spanish is not too good, you are likely to get job offers that do not require contact with the clients such as kitchen jobs.

Areas:

  • Hospitality: hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars, amusement parks, etc.
  • General Services: retail shops, boutiques, supermarkets, etc.

How to Apply

In order to apply for the Paid Work Experience in Spain program, you need to complete and sign the Application Package in Spanish, including the Spanish level test, an actual full size picture, a copy of your passport or ID, letters of reference from previous work experiences, and the program's Terms and Conditions signed.

It is important that you include a full description of your work experience, especially those related to service and hospitality industry. Make sure to complete the application documents thoroughly and carefully as these will be your presentation to your future employer in Spain.

Job Placements

Once we receive your complete Application Package, we will start matching your profile with the available job placements so that when you arrive you have personal interviews to receive a final job offer.

Jobs placements are available all year round, being the best season with more choices and possibilities from March to June, before the summer high season gets started. If you would like to participate in the Paid Work Experience in Spain program in high season, you will need to apply as soon as possible. Normally it takes two to four weeks to get a job offer, depending on the time of the year and on your qualifications and Spanish skills. In low season it might get a bit longer to get a job offer.

How much will I earn?

You will be paid at least the minimum wages, and in some job offers you may be paid a bit more. You will need good budgetary skills to be able to live on your salary and have fun in Spain. Do keep in mind that the program is a good chance to cover your expenses while in Spain, but most probably you will not be able to save money.

How much will I need?

Considering that you will not receive the first salary until the end of the month -in Spain workers are paid once a month- you will need to bring enough money to support yourself until you receive the first pay check. You should bring at least 1.000 to 1.300 Euros for the first part of your Paid Work Experience in Spain program to cover your expenses until your first payment.
