Paid Work Experience in Barcelona!

Work and Travel in Barcelona

In a privileged position on the north-eastern coast of Spain and the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain in both size and population, and it is also the capital of Catalonia.

Barcelona offers a lot of special and exciting activities and places. The central section of the city is conveniently divided by the Ramblas, the main artery of Barcelona’s life, which tumbles from the Plaça de Catalunya southeast towards the Mediterranean Sea and the districts of Port Vell (Old Port), and La Ribera (The Waterfront).

Near the Ramblas, the famous Mercat de la Boqueria is located. This market is well worth a look and is also a good place to visit at breakfast time for excellent tortilla in one of the internal bars. La Rambla ends at the Columbus Monument which you can go up in a lift for spectacular views up the Rambla and across the harbour.

The atmospheric Barri Gòtic (Gothic Quarter), the area to the right of La Rambla, heading in the direction of the Plaça de Catalunya, is the heart of the old city. The Catedral de la Seu and the Museu Picasso are located here. You can find a lot of narrow streets, hidden squares and small shops there. It's a maze of interconnecting dark streets linking with squares, and there are plenty cafés and bars.

The Plaça de Catalunya divides the old town from the Eixample (a grid of streets laid out in the 19th century) in which much of the city’s finest Modernist architecture is to be found, including the celebrated unfinished cathedral La Sagrada Família, the masterpiece Parc Güell, as well as La Pedera, all of them designed by Antoní Gaudi. From July to September you can enjoy 'La Pedrera de Nit’, when you can have a drink at the roof accompanied by delightful music.

On the left side of the city you find the Montjuïc hill. From there you have a breath-taking view on Barcelona. It is home of the Olympic Stadium which was used in the 1992 Olympic Games. It also has some excellent art galleries including the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya and the Fundació Joan Miró.
