Teach Abroad in Spain
The Teach Abroad in Spain Program is designed for young people who want to get a deep insight into the Spanish culture. Participating in this program implies sharing daily life with a host family, learning their language and culture and adopting it as yours for a period of time. At the same time, you will share your own language and culture with the members of your local family.
Details
- You are placed with a Spanish host family.
- Your host family provides you with room and
board.
- You teach the whole family, or some members of the family, your native language (English, German, French or Italian).
- You will generally be asked to teach them an average of 15 hours per week, Monday through Friday, providing lessons and conversation in your native language.
- Lessons can be more or less formal, depending upon the family.
- Upon arrival you assist to a workshop that will help you prepare classes and materials for your family.
- You will have weekends and the rest of the time free to sightsee, learn about Spanish culture and get to know the local people.
Requirements to Teach Abroad in Spain
Due to the special characteristics of the Teach Abroad program, there are some requirements that you need to meet in order to participate:
- Since you will be living for a period of one to six months with a Spanish family, you need to be flexible, tolerant and open minded.
- You must have finished high school.
- You must be 18 - 30 years old.
- You must be a native speaker of English, German, French or Italian.
- You need to carefully complete the application forms and send them to COINED Spain.
- Having teaching experience or skills will be very helpful, though it is not a requirement.
- Having at least some knowledge of Spanish will also be helpful.
Dates
The Teach Abroad program runs throughout the year can be started anytime. However, families normally accept participants either during the school period or during the summer; thus, we suggest the following dates:
- School Period: from September up to June.
- Summer Period: July and August.
You need to apply at least three months in advance the date you wish to travel.
Insurance:In order to participate of the Teach Abroad program in Spain, you need to have complete travel insurance for the whole period of your program. COINED Spain offers you insurance designed for international education programs' participants. Of course you can get your own insurance plan as long as it complies with all the requisites, including civil responsibility.
The Teach Abroad Program Includes
- Placement in a Spanish host family to whom you will teach your mother tongue.
- Room and board in exchange for lessons of 15 hours per week.
- Permanent tutorship form the representatives in Spain.
- Orientation Workshop and material upon arrival.
- 24 hours emergency phone number.
- Access to social and cultural activities with other COINED Spain participants.

The Teach Abroad Program does not Include
- Airfare to Spain.
- Personal expenses.
- Any visa costs.
- Travel medical insurance.
